It’s not possible to create a global Quantum Network using only terrestrial (free-space or fibre) connections due to line-of-sight limitations and transmission loss.
Multiple countries already have, or will soon launch, Quantum space missions that have satellites equipped with quantum communication technologies (i.e. Quantum Transceiver).
The Canadian Space Agency’s Quantum Encryption and Science Satellite (QEYSSat) mission will be Canada’s 1st Quantum Communication Satellite, launching in 2026.
This technical 3-hr course will give an overview of current space-based Quantum Networks, and explain the QEYSSat mission (i.e. trusted-node Quantum Key Distribution with one satellite & two Quantum Ground Stations).
